Many of us use poetry in our services. Poetry has the power to take us to new heights. Whether it can help us ascend to heaven is not a guarantee though – not every poem is a prayer. How do we think about what works well in a prayer context? As we have explored different poetry in the process of creating the new machzor, let us share with you our thinking about what has made it on to the page and what hasn’t. We’ll study and analyze a few examples together.
