Ron Segal

Rabbi Ron Segal joined the Temple Sinai clergy in July 1996 following his rabbinical ordination from Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion. Rabbi Segal served the congregation as Assistant and then Associate Rabbi and was appointed Temple Sinai’s third Senior Rabbi in July 2006.

Rabbi Segal is active in the local, regional and national Jewish communities.  In March 2010, Rabbi Segal chaired the national convention for the Central Conference of American Rabbis (CCAR), the rabbinic professional organization for which he is also serving on the nominating committee.  He is presently a member of the President’s Council for the seminary, Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion (HUC-JIR) and is on the national board of the Union for Reform Judaism (URJ).  Regionally, Rabbi Segal is currently the President of the Southeast Association of the CCAR.  He is also a member of the Atlanta Rabbinic Association, serves on the URJ Camp Coleman Judaic Advisory Board, and recently served on the board of Jewish Family & Career Services.

In addition to his service to the Jewish community, Rabbi Segal is committed to building bridges within the interfaith community.  He is an active member of the Sandy Springs Interfaith Clergy Association, an organization he co-founded and chaired for eight years.  Some of Rabbi Segal’s recent involvement includes serving on the board of the Faith Alliance of Metro Atlanta and as a co-chair of interfaith pilgrimages to Israel and to Jordan for Atlanta area Jews, Christians and Muslims.  Rabbi Segal served as Vice President of Interreligous Affairs for the Atlanta chapter of the American Jewish Committee and co-chaired a Jewish/Presbyterian dialogue group for Atlanta rabbis and ministers.

Rabbi Segal is a graduate of Leadership Atlanta (Class of 2003) and was a participant in the inaugural class of Atlanta’s Faith in the City Leadership Institute.  He regularly teaches in a variety of synagogue and community settings and, in 1998, initiated and coordinated a training course for Reform mohelim to serve the greater Atlanta Jewish community.

Rabbi Segal received his B.A. from Rice University in May 1986.  In 1988, after two years with R.H. Macy & Co, Rabbi Segal became the Assistant Director of Youth and Camping for the URJ’s Southwest Council.  He began his rabbinical studies at HUC-JIR in the summer of 1991, earned his M.A. in Hebrew Letters in 1995 and was ordained as a rabbi in June 1996.  During his academic tenure at HUC-JIR, Rabbi Segal served student congregations in Texarkana, TX, Dubuque, IA and Pine Bluff, AR.

Rabbi Segal was born and raised in Houston, TX and surrounding areas.  He and his wife, Jill, are the proud parents of two sons, Adam and Benjamin.
