Ed Goldberg

Rabbi Goldberg was born in Kansas City, Missouri. He graduated Phi Beta Kappa from the University of Kansas in 1984. He attended Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion in Los Angeles and Cincinnati and was ordained as a rabbi in 1989. He earned a doctorate from Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion in 1994. As an adult, he has spent three years in Jerusalem, the most recent time in a fellowship at the Hebrew University’s Melton Senior Educator’s Program. Prior to his arrival at Temple Judea, he served as the assistant rabbi at the Isaac M. Wise Temple in Cincinnati, Ohio (a congregation which includes the historic Plum Street Temple), and as the associate rabbi at Temple Israel of Hollywood, in Los Angeles.

He is the author of four books, Midrash for Beginners; Heads and Tales: Stories of the Sages to Enlighten Our MindsSwords and Plowshares: Jewish Views of War and Peace; and Love Tales from the Talmud. He also has published numerous articles and sermons. He has served as an adjunct professor at the University of Miami in the Departments of Judaic and Religious Studies. His courses have included: the Five Books of Moses, Judaism and Jewish Thought, Kabbalah, Rabbinic Literature, and an Introduction to the New Testament.

In addition to his responsibilities at Temple Judea, Rabbi Goldberg is on the core editorial team for the upcoming Reform Movement’s High Holy Day Prayer Book.  He is a past president of the Rabbinical Association of Greater Miami and the Southeastern Area of the Central Conference of American Rabbis. He also currently serves on the board of the Miami chapter of the American Jewish Committee.

In his spare time Rabbi Goldberg loves reading and cycling. He is married to Melanie Cole Goldberg, a Jewish educator. They have two children, Joseph and Benjamin.
